Vogue Interiors announced interior designer Deborah Paulin, ASID, NCIDQ has completed the interior design of an 8,552 square feet under air estate residence at Renaissance in Fort Myers built by Harbourside Custom Homes. Paulin’s transitional design style mixes traditional and transitional furnishings with contemporary artwork. The sprawling, two-story residence includes two first floor and four second floor bedrooms, six full baths and three half-baths, an exceptionally large study, a formal dining room that seats twelve, a beautifully executed semi-circular wet bar, a kitchen with a five-sided island and exquisite ceiling details, a formal living room, a spacious family room, a master bedroom with a large seating area, a second floor entertainment room with a wet bar, two covered balconies upstairs, two two-car garages, and an outdoor living area with a fireplace, a summer kitchen with an island bar, and a custom designed pool and spa.
Paulin’s color palette for the formal dining room, living room, and stairwell is a blend of grays, silvers, taupes, creams, and rich butter yellow. The grays carry through to the kitchen, informal living areas, and upstairs where they are harmonized with neutral taupes, putties, and creams which provides a smooth transition to each guest suite having its own personalized color scheme. The first floor exudes an aura of sophisticated elegance while the second floor trends in a more casual direction to provide relaxed comfort for visitors.
Paulin’s design creates a dramatic impact immediately upon entry to the home’s reception area where she uses elaborate decorative insets in the highly polished cream marble flooring. The foyer presents impressive views of a grand living room with soaring 30-foot ceilings, fabulous furniture, and three-tiered drapes. The vista expands to include a glimpse through angled pocketing sliders of a pool with active fountains and fire bowls. To the left, the dramatic circular stairwell with its dark wood finish and custom metal railings rises gracefully to the second story.
The formal dining room showcases a grand traditional style table with distinctive mellow-toned woods, including insets and gilding. The hand-carved dining chairs are French in design with a lovely contemporary fabric on the back. The room is open along one wall to the butler’s pantry where a display of custom metal artwork creates a focal point.
The expansive formal living room is defined by custom carved stone columns to the second floor gallery. The feature wall showcases a carved stone fireplace with a stone mantel and two matching columns that support an elegant arch over which fine artwork is displayed. Deep niches on either side have tall decorative displays of contemporary silver tree branches. Gathered around the fireplace are two upholstered 90-inch wide sofas in a cream fabric with multiple pillows in taupe, cream, and butter yellow, and two French bergere chairs in similar tones. A contemporary black lacquer coffee table with a butter-toned onyx top contrasts the sofa and end tables finished in silver gold. A custom area rug in the same pattern as the featured fabric pillows anchors the space.
Adjacent to the living room is a gorgeous semi-circular custom built-in bar with four black armchairs on casters and finished in a beautiful taupe chenille fabric. The cabinetry within the step down bar area is executed in dark wood while the bar top is black marble and stunning custom apron detail are a complementary high-polish creamy marble background.
The gourmet kitchen features beamed ceiling details and perimeter cabinetry in rich dark brown that plays against granite counters in cream tones with subtle black-gold accents. The backsplash combines golden onyx with buttery tile that displays a shimmery cracked glaze effect. A custom range hood in a combination of stone and copper with corbels and a mantel adds stunning color. A central five-sided island with a black granite surface and painted cream cabinetry offers seating for three. A larger outer island offers seating for five with cabinetry and granite to match the kitchen’s perimeter.
The generous breakfast nook accommodates a large circular wood table with a dark hand-carved twisted base. The eight chairs are in a complementary caramel color with leather seats and simple oval leather backs. A circular ceiling detail ties in with the wood beams in the kitchen and the dark tones of the spiral staircase.
In the family room, Paulin has introduced a more rustic theme with a large L-shaped sectional in plush patterned chenille accompanied by a long sofa table in a weathered sandy finish and a second three-seat matching sofa. The cocktail table has a casual wood plank top and traditional carved detailing. A custom entertainment center in the same rich wood used in the kitchen houses a large television with shelving on either side. Pocketing sliders open to provide a seamless transition to the outdoor kitchen and dining space.
The outdoor kitchen’s focal wall features stacked stone in an arch shape and a marble backsplash behind a grill with a faux copper custom hood in terracotta tones. An island with seating for five is executed in dark wood cabinetry with a stacked stone apron and granite counter in black, taupe and terracotta. The outdoor dining table seats ten and features a glorious multi-toned marble top set on a black granite base. A fabulous double-sided fireplace in the outdoor conversation area accommodates a large recessed television. A sofa and four huge swivel chairs encourage relaxation and are anchored by a stunning area rug that unites all the colors.
A private foyer bids welcome to the enormous master suite. The magnificent bed and nightstands are elevated on a luxurious carpeted platform. Against a backdrop of mother of pearl shell wallpaper in a gray-fawn swirl motif, the hand-carved headboard is upholstered with beautiful pleated chenille fabric. An armoire artfully accommodates a built-in breakfast bar with a refrigerator and sink. The bedroom has been discreetly wired for operating the glamorous drapery treatments and a retractable television stowed in the bed’s footboard. A wall separates the bedroom from a sitting area which also functions as her office with built-in cabinetry, a floating desk, and pretty chaise lounge.
The sumptuous bathroom, wallpapered in silver cork, features an exotic raised island tub finished in elegant granite and flanked by custom stone columns. The shower displays decorative arches on each wall with intricate water jet designs. Elegant dark vanity cabinetry contrasts beautifully with the classic marble flooring that extends into her closet with its push button revolving clothes rack.
The study epitomizes refinement with floor-to-ceiling wood paneling and a matching desk and cabinetry. An elaborate design in the high-polish marble flooring adds distinction.
Upstairs, a gallery hallway provides dramatic views on either side to the first floor. In addition to four guest suites, the second floor includes a vast entertainment area with a wet bar. Tiered theatre seating across from a massive television framed by charcoal gray shelving encourages comfortable lounging. The games area features a second charcoal gray built-in incorporating a window seat, as well as shuffle board and reversible poker tables top or games for children, and another full-size bar. A library area with a cozy chair and lamp completes the scene.
